Tried to Off-road Yesterday

After three days in camp doing fun things like cooking beans, taking the Can Am over to Lake City to sell, buying groceries, etc., we decided it was time to venture out.

We drove over to Crested Butte with the idea being to run Scofield Pass.  We stopped at a gas station/store in Crested Butte and asked about the trails and was told they were all still closed due to the snow.  Well, I thought they might not know what they were talking about so awayyyyyy we went to Scofield.  Sure enough, they were right!

We got to a spot where the road was completely covered with snow.  There was a spot about 50 feet long where other folks had been driving through the snow so we did as well.  A little farther and we had to turn around.  Adventuresome me in my AWESOME Jeep decided I didn't need to follow the same tracks and headed back in a new spot.  Got about 15 feet into the snow and BOOM, we were stuck!  Lot of folks standing around and luckily when I put it in 4 wheel drive, I was able to back up and move over to the right spot and get back across.

We headed back towards Gunnison and found another road heading back into the mountains so away we went back up again.  We made it a long ways but came onto a bad spot with Toni saying, "No Honey, don't try it!"  Well, again, me in my awesome Jeep said, "Don't worry.  We can make it."

Nope.  Wrong again.  I think there must have been a tree under the snow because as we started over, we got turtle humped and stopped in our tracks.  This time, we were already in four wheel drive and I was beginning to get worried since we had seen only one other vehicle and they were behind us going the other direction.  Luckily, we were able to back off the tree and turned around.

Here are some pictures that we took on this little trip.
